French international Varane is one of Europe’s most promising young central defenders and it had been thought Real would never consider selling him. However new manager Zinedine Zidane does not see Varane as first choice, preferring veteran pairing of Sergio Ramos and Pepe.
The player has told close sources he is far from happy with the situation and instructed his representatives to sound out a move away from the Bernabeu.
Manchester United are desperate to land a marquee defensive signing in the next transfer window, ideally to play alongside current captain Chris Smalling. The Red Devils believe Varane is the man to fill this role and will not be put off at the £50m price tag.
United will not make a move until the end of the season and Varane gives a clear indication to Real that he wants to leave before opening neogitations.
