There’s no question that AC Milan have been working hard to improve the side in recent years, as they have acquired quality names such as Hakan Calhanoglu, Tiemoue Bakayoko, Ricardo Rodriguez and, most recently, Krzysztof Piątek. However, the Serie A giants are still one or two players from becoming a real title contender in Italy’s top-flight.

With that in mind, Milan are already looking at alternatives to bolster their squad ahead of the 2019-20 season, and one alternative might be to make a push for Lazio starlet Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.

According to Calciomercato, the Rosonerri side will make another attempt to sign the Serbian midfielder. The Lazio star has been often linked with numerous top European clubs and at one point he was linked to both Real Madrid and Barcelona, but in the past six months it seems as if Milan have taken a front seat in the race to sign him.

One of the other interested clubs, Manchester United, seem to be out of the race and while the 24-year-old towering midfielder hasn’t been able to repeat what he did last season, Milan still hold him in high regard. Undoubtedly, Milan are in need of strengthening their midfield, especially if they end up in top four of Serie A and qualify for Champions League next season, and a player like Milinkovic-Savic would fit quite will with a bruising-minded manager such as Gennaro Gattuso.

Under those circumstances, Milan should definitively make a move for the Serbian. He could be part of the team’s new, young backbone that might also include talented young players such as Lucas Paqueta and Piatek, two elements that joined the Serie A side this January.
