‘Turkish Messi’ Talks Up Liverpool Move

Abdulkadir Omur, one Turkish football’s hottest prospects, is eager for recent reports of a move to Liverpool to come true, claims ESPN.

The precocious 19-year-old found himself the centre of intense transfer speculation last week when Turkish media outlets claimed the Premier League giants lodged a €30m bid with his current club Trabzonspor.

Responding to those claims, Omur left the ball very much in the court of Karadeniz Fırtınası management:

“These offers are something Trabzonspor need to discuss.

“If the club gives the go-ahead, talks can be held. The club’s interests take precedence. I’ll do whatever is in the club’s best interests.

“If the club says leave, I’ll leave. If they say stay, I’ll stay. We are having a great season. We are in the title race and on course to make the Turkish Cup final.”

His current deal runs through to 2022 so Trabzonspor is in no hurry to sell. €30m this winter can easily double next summer.

The winger went on to discuss his nickname of the ‘Turkish Messi’, coined on UEFA’s own website four years ago. Omur described the comparison as “amazing” with no hint of trying to play it down.

That Liverpool is linked with such rumours is a sign of the status Jurgen Klopp’s team has returned to. Omur called the Reds “a great club, one of the greatest in the world.”
