Incoming Chelsea boss Antonio Conte has issued a transfer plea to his new board instructing them to sign Napoli hitman Gonzalo Higuain, 28, whatever the cost.

Reports emerging in Italy have stated a £42m transfer bid from Chelsea has been received by Napoli and that the Italian club are giving serious consideration to cashing in on their prized asset.

Argentinian international Higuain has been in lethal form since joining Napoli from Real Madrid in 2013 for £36m. The striker has netted 67 goals in 35 appearances for the Azzurri, and is regarded as one of the best finishers in Europe.

It is this consistency that has attracted interest in Higuain from around Europe, having been linked to Manchester United only last week.

However it is Chelsea who have followed up their interest with a bid, and will look to wrap up a deal in principle before the transfer window even opens this summer. It will remain to be seen whether or not other potential suitors will now also table a bid for Higuain.
