Real Madrid might lose Raphael Varane this upcoming summer and therefore, Los Blancos are already looking for a potential replacement to partner with Sergio Ramos going forward. And it seems the reigning UEFA Champions League title holders have identified their top target.
According to a report from The Sun, Los Blancos are ready to make a move for Eric Bailly. The Ivory Coast international had a promising start to his Manchester United career, but has barely played in the current season and he’s now the fourth-best option at centre-back behind Chris Smalling, Victor Lindelof and Phil Jones.
This is not the first time Madrid are keen on Bailly, however. They were already interested in him back in 2016 when he was still playing at Villarreal, but that time United moved quicker and signed him for a £30m transfer fee. This time, Madrid would have to pay a bigger sum but they still believe he’s worth it. Especially considering they’ll likely receive a hefty fee for Varane if he ends up leaving.
And if we add the fact that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen to rebuild Manchester United from a defensive point of view, then a potential departure would be even easier.
