For Jose Mourinho, left-back is a problem which won’t go away. Luke Shaw, 22, with injuries and weight issues, fell from grace with the Manchester United boss and is heading for the Old Trafford exit.
Speculation surrounding the Algeria international has been rife for some time with Chelsea and Manchester City leading the clubs interested in the 27-year-old who was voted Algeria Player of the Year in 2017, even though he suffered a knee ligament injury earlier this season.
It’s known that a €60m release clause exists in his current contract which he signed in December of last year.
United are also on the trail of Tottenham Hotspur’s England international Danny Rose, 27, but even if the Red Devils met Ghoulam’s release clause, it’s likely to be cheaper than negotiating with Daniel Levy for the Lilywhites highly-rated left-back.
Shaw in the meantime has let it be known that he is unhappy with his treatment at the hands of Jose Mourinho, but is determined to leave Old Trafford on his terms as he seeks the first-team football which will get him back into the England set-up.
