Liverpool striker Dominic Solanke’s loan move to Crystal Palace dramatically collapsed this evening after he failed a medical claims talkSPORT.

Jurgen Klopp told the media the 21-year-old suffered a muscle strain and wasn’t fit for the Christmas fixtures. Today’s developments suggest the injury is more serious than the German let on.

Palace were already reeling from news that Bundesliga outfit Schalke 04 are also interest in the England Under-21 international. The trend for Germany’s elite to cherry-pick the cream of young English talent shows no sign of abating.

It’s another disappointing turn of events of Roy Hodgson. The Eagles are desperate to add firepower to their squad and look likely to miss out on Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham, 21. Wolverhampton Wanderers are leading the race for the forward who is enjoying a prolific season with Aston Villa in the Championship.

Speaking ahead of his side’s trip to Manchester City for a fixture which has huge implications for the title race, Klopp refused to confirm Solanke would still be at Anfield at the end of January.

Following the success of Jadon Sancho, 18, at Dortmund and Reiss Nelson, also 18, on loan at Hoffenheim, the rest of the Bundesliga is sitting up and taking notice. Chelsea’s Callum Hudson-Odoi, 18, is on Bayern Munich’s radar; will Solanke be the next to move across the English Channel?
