Chelsea central defender Andreas Christensen, 21, has emerged as one of the defensive options being considered by Inter Milan, according to talkSPORT.

The Italian club are spreading their net far and wide as they look to strengthen their back line, as they seek to land their first scudetto since 2010. Currently second, Internazionale are in a strong position just two points behind leaders Napoli and a point ahead of defending champions Juventus.

As well as Christensen, the Nerazzurri are looking at Thomas Vermaelen, Barcelona’s 31-year-old centre back. The Belgian is a short-term experienced solution while the Chelsea youngster is very much a long-term option.

The Danish international with 11 caps to his name, spent two seasons on loan in the Bundesliga with Borussia Monchengladbach. With 82 appearances – and seven goals – he was a popular member of the German club’s squad, winning their Player of the Season award in 2015-16.

Christensen returned to Stamford Bridge last summer when Monchengladbach were unable to persuade Chelsea to see.

He made his debut during the League Cup tie at Shrewsbury Town in 2014 but has been limited to 12 appearances since; nine of those have come this season.

With competition for places always intense at Stamford Bridge, Inter may present more opportunities for first team football.
