Everton are set to continue their summer spending with the signing of Russian World Cup star Denis Cheryshev.
Marca claims the 27-year-old Villarreal midfielder is surplus to requirements at Estadio de la Cerámica.
His footballing education began at Real Madrid where he came through the academy system into the first team. However, the Russia international failed to impress at the Bernabeu, moving to Castellon in 2016 on a five-year deal.
Now, head coach Javier Calleja decided Cheryshev won’t command a place in his starting line-up and the club is determined to cash in on his rising profile following his summer adventure.
Cheryshev scored twice for Russia in their opening thrashing of Saudi Arabia, before adding goals against Egypt and Croatia. His four-goal haul left his joint-second highest goalscorer in the 2018 World Cup.
Everton added Lucas Digne, 25, to their squad this week, as well as Brazilian striker Richarlison, 21, who arrived last month. After last season’s disappointing Premier League campaign, new boss Marco Silva is determined to improve the squad and challenge for the Europa League places.
Cheryshev is due to return to training soon, but it could be a short stint in Villa-real if the Goodison Park outfit can match the Yellow Submarine’s valuation of their Russian wizard.
