Director of football Steve Walsh flew to Istanbul last week to finalise terms with Besiktas for a £25m deal to bring the 26-year-old Turkey international to Goodison Park.
Tosun attracted a lot of Premier League interest with Newcastle United and Crystal Palace both strongly interested in signing the German-born striker.
Personal terms are agreed and Tosun is expected on Merseyside on Tuesday for a medical, as well as completing the formalities. It’s reported that a four-year deal worth £7.5m per year, equivalent to £145,000 a week.
Tosun has 14 goals in 24 appearances this season and was an integral part of the Besiktas squad which stormed to the top of their Champions League group, in which he scored four goals.
He joined Besiktas from Gaziantepspor in 2014 and has since scored 52 goals in 125 appearances for the reigning Super Lig champions.
Everton were linked with a number of strikers throughout the summer, including Arsenal’s Olivier Giroud. The 30-year-old French international again ruled out a move to Merseyside recently.
Tosun’s arrival fills the gap left when Romelu Lukaku joined Manchester United, this season has been a disappointment for the Toffees.
