Benfica’s Alex Grimaldo Eyed by Serie A Leaders Napoli

Alex Grimaldo joined Benfica back in 2015 as one of the most talented young defenders in Europe.

Known as a great platform for youth development, Benfica were expected to offer the talented Spanish defender a chance to grow but two years after his arrival to Lisbon Alex Grimaldo cannot be satisfied with his progress.

The 22-year-old versatile defender is not a first-team regular at Estadio da Luz and has thus far made only 6 Primeira Liga appearances for the Portuguese champions.

Grimaldo is contracted to Benfica until 2021 but is believed to be pushing for a change of scenery in January in order to kick-start his career.

Benfica appear to be open to letting the Spaniard leave and Serie A leaders Napoli are said to have already approached the Portuguese heavyweights with a €20 million offer for a player paid €1.5 million only two years ago.
