Roma keen on Atletico Madrid’s Juanfran

Atletico Madrid right back Juanfran was a huge crowd favourite at the Vicente Calderon, despite missing the crucial penalty in the 2016 Champions League final against eternal rivals Real Madrid.

Unfortunately with the move to the new stadium – the Wanda Metropolitano – and the rise of Croatian international Sime Vrsaljko to challenge for the starting right back spot in Diego Simeone’s starting XI, Juanfran has been struggling for game time.

The long-serving Spaniard is in his eighth season with Los Rojiblancos, but has only featured eight times during this La Liga campaign. At 32-years of age, Juanfran will need to make one final move if he wants to see out his career with consistent minutes at the top level.

Thankfully Italian giants Roma are offering a way out, according to Spanish publication AS. The defender’s contract is set to expire at the end of the season, but the Giallorossi find themselves in need of a right-sided defender due to the poor form of Bruno Peres, and the injury to Rick Karsdorp.

Roma currently sit fourth in the Serie A table, nine points off leaders Napoli, and the addition of Juanfran would help Eusebio Di Francesco to bolster his squad, as well as challenging for a higher league position come the end of the season.
