The BBC claims “a listing, which has since been deleted, on the Nike website read: ‘Philippe Coutinho is ready to light up Camp Nou.'”
The 25-year-old Brazilian international was the centre of one of the longest-running transfer sagas of last summer, which continues to this day. The BBC report, however, suggests that it may soon be drawing to a close.
Liverpool were resolute in holding out against the Catalans onslaught in the summer where every day brought a new story of a Barcelona bid. Even when the offers reached €130m, the Reds rejected the chance to cash in on their midfield maestro.
Now, it seems as if they are ready to take the Blaugrana cash and allow Coutinho to make a move to the Camp Nou. He has made no secret of his desire to move to Barcelona and against that determination, Liverpool seem to have reconciled themselves to losing a player who has scored six goals in his last seven matches.
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp recently denied that selling Coutinho was necessary to fund the £75m purchase of Virgil Van Dijk, 26, from Southampton.
The cash influx may be used to ratchet up the Reds pursuit of Schalke winger Leon Goretzka, 22, who has been heavily linked with a move to Anfield next summer. The Bundesliga club may be tempted into an early deal if Liverpool come in with a cash offer this January.
