One of Riyad Mahrez’s long-time alternatives to leave Leicester City before the Deadline has closed the door on the possibility.
According to several reports, FC Barcelona are not interested in making a move for the Algeria international in the coming hours, so they won’t make a push to sign him before the Deadline Day passes today at 11 PM. Mahrez has been linked with a move to Camp Nou for the past two years, but that will no longer be the case.
Mahrez is a talented player, but there were concerns regarding his attitude and regarding how well we would have fit in Barcelona. After all, Los Blaugranas already signed Ousmane Dembele, and are reportedly targeting both Angel Di Maria and Philippe Coutinho. And if we add the presence of Lionel Messi, Arda Turan and others, playing time would have been quite scarce for the Algerian star.
Not to mention Mahrez has also seen a dip in his form of late. After he was named the PFA Player Of The Year in 2016 he hasn’t been the same, and is miles away from that dazzling playmaker that led Leicester City to an unlikely Premier League title in the 2015-16 campaign.
With Barcelona closing the door and considering both AS Roma and Arsenal failed to sign, it is becoming more and more likely that Mahrez will remain at Leicester, at least until the January transfer window.
