All hope is not lost for Real Madrid.
Los Blancos continue to search the transfer market looking for any potential upgrades, but they are (oddly) focused on signing a new striker. Names such as Harry Kane, Mohamed Salah and others have been mentioned, but the club’s biggest objective is none other than Mauro Icardi.
And after Argentina manager Jorge Sampaoli indicated that the Inter Milan star is close to join Real Madrid, Florentino Perez has decided to launch another raid towards acquiring the 24-year-old striker. Recent reports have indicated the move might not be completed until the summer, but that is not going to stop Real from at least trying.
Icardi is enjoying another stellar season with Inter, and he is among the top scorers in the Serie A with 18 goals in 22 appearances for the Neroazzurri. He would represent an upgrade over Karim Benzema, although he would be quite expensive. The Argentina international currently has a £97.8million release clause, and is currently under contract until June 2021.
He emerged from a talented prospect to become one of the most deadly attackers in the world. And he is expected to lead Argentina’s attacking line in the upcoming World Cup as well, alongside names such as Lionel Messi and Angel Di Maria.
