Former Juventus midfielder Claudio Marchisio terminated his contract with the Serie A champions on mutual consent and is free to choose his next destination. And while several teams have emerged as potential new teams, recent reports have indicated he might end up playing in Portugal in the Primeira Liga.

The experienced 32-year-old central midfielder and former Italy international had been linked with a move to Sporting Lisbon, but now both FC Porto and Benfica have also entered potential negotiations.

According to local news outlet A Bola, the two Champions League bound sides are looking to add Marchisio to their respective squads before the deadline day on August 31. It must be said that Lisbon is one of the places Marchisio’s family would like to live in, and that could have a huge impact on his decision. This would put Benfica on top of the list, especially since Sporting’s interest has faded away of late.

The 32-year-old midfielder made 389 appearances at Juventus and played a vital role in his team’s glut of seven consecutive Serie A titles. But now he is looking for a new team to play for and unless there are surprising developments, we can expect to see him featuring regularly both in Portugal and the UEFA Champions League during the 2018-19 season.
