One of the most veteran players in the current FC Barcelona squad could be leaving the club once the current season comes to an end.

According to a report from Sport, defender and midfielder could be on his way out of the club, as the Argentina international is reportedly interested to move to the MLS during 2018. Even though the Argentinian’s contract with Los Blaugranas runs out in 2019, all signs indicate that ‘Masche’ would leave the team at the end of the current term.

Mascherano has managed to play regularly for Barcelona this season, but it’s not a secret that he will get a reduced role in the coming months. He is not quick or accurate enough to play as a central midfielder in Barca and even though he can play at centre-back, he is nothing more than a backup to Samuel Umtiti and Gerard Pique. The arrival of a new centre-back, as it has been suggested, could make him fall even further in the manager’s preferences.

It also makes sense for him to look for a new advanture. Mascherano already played for Corinthians, West Ham United, and Liverpool before joining Los Blaugranas, so a move to the MLS would allow him to spend the final years of his career in a more relaxed, less competitive environment.

Mascherano has reportedly informed the Blaugrana that he does not want a move to Qatar or China and that a move to the States is now a priority.
