Nice were one of the top teams in Europe that were on the market for a striker. However, the French side won’t have that problem anymore after acquiring one of the most promising forwards on the Dutch Eredivisie.
According to several reports, the Ligue 1 side have completed a move to sign Ajax forward Kasper Dolberg for a reported €20m fee. The 21-year-old Denmark international, who was named the Dutch Football Talent of the Year in 2016-17, never managed to live to the expectations and was becoming an afterthought at the reigning Dutch champions.
He will now hope to re-launch his career at the French Riviera, where he will probably become a starter right away. Dolberg passed his medical on Wednesday and arrives having scored more goals for Ajax than any other player since his debut with the club.
Dolberg, who had joined Ajax back in 2016, made over a century of appearances for the club and was a member of the squad that claimed a domestic double last season. However, he is coming off a poor individual showing since he only netted 12 goals in 30 appearances for Ajax in all competitions.
Nice had previously lost Allan Saint-Maximin to Newcastle this season, so they needed reinforcements upfront. Dolberg will certainly help to fill that void.
