Freiburg defender Caglar Soyuncu, 22, confirmed he is set to talk to Arsenal, but denied a deal was already in place to take him to north London, reports the Evening Standard.
After the president of his former club Altinordu, Seyit Mehmet Ozkan, told the world earlier this month that Arsenal had beaten Bayern Munich to his signature, Soyuncu acted quickly to refute the claims.
Comments in Turkish magazine Tumspor are quoted by the London local newspaper:
“Arsenal are one of the most important clubs in England.
“I know they’re interested in me, but there’s nothing finalised yet about my transfer.
“After the national team camp, we’ll have talks.”
The Turkey international with nine caps to his name would be another signing attributed to the head of recruitment, Sven Mislintat.
Formerly with Borussia Dortmund, the German has already overseen the signings of stars from his previous club, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, 27, and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, 29, as well as long-time BVB target Stavros Mavropanos, 21.
Arsenal are also linked with Sokratis Papastathopoulos, 29, as the extent of the defensive frailties under Arsene Wenger are laid bare.
Soyuncu has been widely praised for his Bundesliga performances this season as Freiburg escaped the relegation play-off by three points, finishing 15th ahead of Wolfsburg.
