Arsenal and Manchester City are both keen on signing Everton midfielder Idrissa Gana Gueye, 29, reports Sky Sports.

The Premier League duo are ready to rival Paris St-Germain for the Senegal international just days after the French champions bid of £21.5m was rejected by the Toffees hierarchy.

Gueye rocked the club when he handed in a transfer request after PSG made contact in a bid to force through a move to the Parc Des Princes. Now, he has more choice if he simply feels inclined to leave Goodison Park.

Arsenal are very much the outsiders in this battle with City and PSG both able to offer Champions League football to the combative midfielder.

It’s understood that Gueye pled with the club’s senior management to be released. Everton, the report claims, were unmoved and are determined to resist any attempts to move before the summer.

Gueye left Aston Villa for Merseyside in 2016 following the Birmingham-based club’s relegation to the Championship. His original deal ended in 2019 but was persuaded to sign a contract extension in February 2018 which takes his deal through to 2021.

Everton, already wealthy thanks to the largesse of majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri, are won’t succumb to financial pressure in this deal.
