Borussia Dortmund did not waste any time and have already found the perfect replacement for Ousmane Dembele, who joined FC Barcelona this past week.
The Bundesliga giants went ahead to test the market, and only needed a few days to capture the replacement for the French Winger. Per reports, Dortmund have secured Andriy Yarmolenko from Dynamo Kyiv.
Yarmolenko is considered one of the most dynamic wingers in Europe, and his positional versatility is one of his calling cards. The 27-year-old attacking midfielder agreed to a reported four-year deal with Dortmund, and he commanded a transfer around in the region of €25 million. Quite a steal if we consider Dortmund just sold Dembele for a sum nearing the €105M mark.
The 27-year-old should fit in quite well in Peter Bosz’s tactical scheme, since he can play all over the attacking third as a winger, attacking midfielder, and even as a support striker. His track record certainly makes him worth the investment, as Yarmolenko is a three-time winner of the Ukraine Premier League with Kiev.
“Andriy is a player we have been pursuing for a long time,” said Dortmund sports director Michael Zorc when introducing the team’s new player to the media. “We’ve tracked him for a long time, and stands for top level football both on club and national team level.”
“I am very thankful that Dinamo Kiev has fulfilled my dream of moving to a top European club,” Yarmolenko said. “I will work hard in training, and help BVB reach its biggest goals. It’s always about that.”
The 27-year-old has won 69 caps for his country, scoring 29 goals. And he is quite proven at the club level as well after netting an impressive 137 times in 339 appearances across all competitions for Dynamo.
