David de Gea will not be sold this summer, according to Jose Mourinho.

Manchester Evening News reports the Manchester United boss as claiming that even though he is about to enter the final year of his contract, the club holds an option for an additional year. There’s no rush, the Portuguese declared, to sell the player.

It means de Gea must force an Old Trafford exit if he wants to join Real Madrid. The defending holders of the Champions League are known to be searching for a replacement for Kaylor Navas, who endured another calamitous evening in Munich as Los Merengues overcame his mistake to beat FC Bayern 2 – 1.

The Costa Rican blundered during the quarter-final second leg at home to Juventus and the error which led to Bayern’s goal.

Mourinho is determined to keep hold of the player and was unequivocal when asked if de Gea might be sold. “No chance,” he told reporters.

27-year-old de Gea, who is favourite to win the Premier League Golden Gloves award, is a long-time target for Real Madrid with Florentino Perez keen on signing the Spain international.

United remain hopeful the goalkeeper will remain at Old Trafford beyond 2020. De Gea, publicly at least, is open to the idea, giving United encouragement and impetus in making a new deal appealing.
