Barcelona centre-back Samuel Umtiti will snub Manchester United and stay at the Camp Nou, reports the Daily Mail.

The France international has a £53m release clause in his current contract but wants to extend his stay in Spain. Umtiti is said to be chasing a net salary of £8m per year which is comfortably within United’s price range.

Negotiations are ongoing between Umtiti’s representatives and the Barcelona hierarchy for a new deal which will see his release clause double.

With a place at the heart of Didier Deschamps exciting France side secured, Barcelona believe Umtiti is a more valuable asset than Virgil van Dijk, who cost Liverpool £75m earlier this year.

The 24-year-old France international is closing in on 100 appearances for Barcelona since moving to the Camp Nou in a €25m deal two years ago.

With the Blaugrana all but crowned La Liga champions, as well as being favourites for this season’s Champions League, Umtiti is determined to stay in Catalunya where he believes he has a better chance of winning trophies than if he moves to Old Trafford.

Born in Cameroon, Umtiti is one of Jose Mourinho’s priority targets for the summer as the United boss looks to reshape his squad. The search for a consistent central defender to partner Eric Bailly will continue elsewhere it seems.
