One of the biggest storylines during the European transfer window period will undoubtedly be tied to the future of Gianluigi Buffon. It remains unclear whether the former Juventus legend will opt to retire or keep playing, but recent indications have shown that the Italy international will probably remain active.
If that’s the case, then PSG have already looked like the most likely destination. The reigning Ligue 1 champions know they must bolster their depth between the posts for the upcoming season, and Buffon certainly looks like a solid alternative.
The 40-year-old remain capable of playing at the highest level and considering his experience, he would become an instant upgrade over current in-house alternatives such as Alphonse Areola or Kevin Trapp.
The player has not talked regarding his future, but his agent has not followed that path. In fact, Silvano Martina spoked to Le Parisien and his words could not have been clearer when he said that “we’d be happy if next season Gigi played for Paris St Germain”.
Only time will tell whether Buffon remains playing, but the player already said that he is not looking to play in a minor league so if he wants to continue in activity, he would look for a challenge “as big as Juventus’ one”. So right now, Buffon seems to be getting closer to France after each and every day.
