Real Madrid could lose one of their best defenders during the upcoming transfer market since Raphael Varane has been linked with a move away from the Santiago Bernabeu outfit. But if that happens, then Los Merengues are not going to let him leave cheaply.
According to a report from Italian outlet CalcioMercato, Real Madrid will be asking for €100 million before they consider selling the France international and reigning World Cup champions. Varane has been linked with a switch to either Manchester United or Juventus, but neither side is reportedly leading the race to acquire him.
For what is worth, Los Merengues would prefer to keep Varane on the squad. They view him as a core piece going forward, and as the future leader of the defensive line once Sergio Ramos retires and/or leaves the club. The latter could very well happen next summer, hence Madrld’s reluctancy in parting ways with the French centre-back.
Varane has played for Real Madrid since 2011, notching up more than 170 appearances for the La Liga side. He’s won everything a player could win playing for Los Merengues and would reportedly welcome a change of scenery but since he is under contract until 2022, Madrid will have the final saying on whether he stays or leaves the club.
