Manchester United have been looking to bolster their defensive depth since last summer, but they haven’t been able to add that one player that could anchor the back line for both present and future times.

However, recent reports from Italy have indicated that The Red Devils are interested in making a push for AC Milan defender Alessio Romagnoli, who has been with the club since 2015 but has been linked with a move away from the San Siro for quite some time now.

The Italy international has remained loyal with the Serie A giants during the past few years, but could things change now? The 24-year-old seems ready to make the jump to a bigger club and his playing style would certainly fit in the Premier League.

However, United are not alone on the race to acquire the star centre-back. Chelsea have also been enquiring about his services and Juventus are in the mix as well. The reigning Serie A champions are believed to be the front-runners, but we can’t rule out these two Premier League sides.

Romagnoli joined Milan from Roma and has been a regular fixture in the first team ever since, and even managed to make his debut for the Italian national team back in 2016.
