Manchester United have been one of the busiest teams in the January transfer window, and they already grabbed headlines with the acquisition of Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal. However, they are not done dealing, and could add at least one more name before the transfer window shuts next week.

One thing Jose Mourinho wants to do is to bolster their defensive depth, mostly due to the injury sustained by Eric Bailly. And the reigning FA Cup winners have set their sights in no other than Marc Bartra, a Spanish defender currently featuring for Borussia Dortmund.

According to a report from The Metro, The Red Devils are keen to make a move for the former Barcelona defender, as they believe he has enough potential to become one of the top centre-backs in Europe in the near future. He is also adept at going forward, as he has two goals and one assist in 12 Bundesliga appearances this season.

Despite this potential, Bartra has struggled to secure a regular role with Dortmund, and the Bundesliga side has already told him he is free to leave if he finds another team. His arrival would certainly bolster United at the back, and he would provide another quality option for the CB position to compete with names such as Marcos Rojo, Chris Smalling, and Phil Jones.

United would have to fight for the defender’s signature, however, as Juventus and Real Betis have also emerged as potential destinations for the 27-year-old.
