AS Roma remain hurt following the disappointing outcome of the Malcom saga that saw them finish second on the race to acquire the Bordeaux winger, who ended signing with FC Barcelona instead. However, sporting director Monchi already knows which player could fill his void.
The Serie A giants are set to launch a bid to sign Mikel Oyarzabal, who currently plays for Real Sociedad, as they want to invest the €40 million they were set to spend on Malcom to add a new winger, and the Spaniard has once again risen to the top of the club’s shortlist.
Real Sociedad already stated they are not planning to part ways with the cultured winger, and it seems the player himself does not want to leave Anoeta, either. He was granted the club’s n.° 10 shirt and he has also said he does not have any plans to leave San Sebastian any time soon.
Perhaps the only way Roma can make an approach towards Oyarzabal is to pay the player’s €50M release clause. But agreeing to personal terms with the 21-year-old could be complicated due to his desire of staying home.
Even if they can’t land Oyarzabal, Roma already have a decent amount of attacking options. They acquired Ante Coric and Justin Kluivert this summer, and they already had Cengiz Under, Diego Perotti and Stephan El Shaarawy to fulfill the winger role.
