Alvaro Morata’s miserable season in England will soon be a thing of the past as Chelsea look to cut their losses, according to the Daily Mail.

After a flying start with the Blues, the 25-year-old suffered a goal drought, taking his initial seven goals in eight games to just 11 for the season. Centre-forward is proving to be a problematic position for the Blues with Michy Batshuayi, 22, failing to live up to expectations and sent off to Dortmund on loan for the season half of the season.

The Spain international’s form dropped so much that head coach Julen Lopetgui omitted the former Real Madrid striker from his 23-man squad for the World Cup finals.

Constant rumours suggested Morata would return to Juventus where he remains highly regarded, fuelled in part by news that 32-year-old Mario Mandzukic is leaving Turin this summer.

However, Spanish radio station Cadena Ser Italian newspaper Il Messagerro claims Chelsea are proposing a deal with Inter Milan for their 25-year-old Argentinean striker Mauro Icardi. Despite scoring 29 goals in 36 games for the Nerazzurri and sharing the Capocanoniere award with Ciro Immobile, Jorge Sampaoli omitted him from the final Albiceleste 23-man World Cup finals squad.

Icardi has been linked with a move to the Premier League in previous summers, most notably to Arsenal two years ago. This time, with Chelsea offering £35m plus Alvaro Morata, there’s a real chance it may happen.
