According to Swedish news outlet Expressen, the Gunners held talks recently with the agent of RB Leipzig winger Emil Forsberg.
The Sweden international is set to star at this summer’s World Cup finals in Russia after playing a significant role in Leipzig’s promotion to the Bundesliga and success in cementing their spot in the upper echelons of the table.
It’s reported that the German club will demand a fee of £47.5m for the 26-year-old winger, but only if they land a suitable replacement first.
Step forward Chelsea winger, Kenedy.
The 22-year-old impressed on loan at St James Park during the second half of the 2017-18 season and Newcastle remain hopeful they will re-sign the Brazilian on a two-year loan deal.
However, interest from Arsenal and Leipzig makes that scenario unlikely. The German club raided English football before, taking Oliver Burke from Nottingham Forest for an ill-fated season.
Kenedy’s exit from Stamford Bridge is inevitable after he sent home from a pre-season tour of the Far East last year in disgrace following intemperate comments on social media. A late summer move to Newcastle fell through but the January window saw him become an integral part of the Magpies successful fight against relegation.
