Islam Slimani, Leicester City’s record-signing, is set to leave the King Power according to the Leicester Mercury.

AS Monaco, close to completing the sale of Guido Carrillo to Southampton, are looking at the Algerian striker to replace the Premier League-bound Argentinean.

Foxes manager Claude Puel sanctioned the sale of the £28m striker having decided his squad is well-stocked in that department. With Chelsea struggling to finalise terms with AS Roma over 31-year-old Edin Dzeko, Slimani has been heavily linked with a move to Stamford Bridge.

Slimani was spotted at the Emirates watching Chelsea’s 2 – 1 Carabao Cup semi-final defeat to Arsenal earlier this week. Puel joked that the Algerian and Riyad Mahrez, 26, were both scouting future; Leicester face the Gunners in two months’ time…

Since joining from Sporting Lisbon in the aftermath of the Foxes shock Premier League title-winning season, Slimani has failed to impress. With 12 goals in 43 appearances, the Algeria international isn’t showing the form of his Portuguese stay when he scored 57 goals in 109 appearances for Sporting.

Newcastle United were said to be interested but their attention is now turned to Feyenoord striker Nicolai Jorgensen, for whom they recently had a £14m bid rejected.
