Few players in Europe have been attracting as much attention as Ajax’s up-and-coming playmaker.
The Dutch international has already emerged as one of the best players in the Eredivisie and it seems his jump to a more competitive environment will occur in no time. FC Barcelona were the most active team on his pursuit, but it seems Los Blaugranas will now have some stiff competition on the race to acquire the talented 21-year-old midfielder.
Yes, you guessed it: Real Madrid are about to enter the race for the Ajax star. Knowing Luka Modrić could eventually leave the team, Dutch media outlet De Telegraaf reports that Real Madrid are actively searching for a long-term replacement for their 33-year-old playmaker and de Jong is one of the names at the top of Florentino Pérez’s list.
In fact, Real Madrid would be open to outbid Barca if needed just to make sure they can acquire the 21-year-old talented playmaker. Barcelona already have a crowded midfield with the arrivals of Arthur and Arturo Vidal, while de Jong might have a clearer path to a potential starting role in the near future with no established backups for either Modrić or Toni Kroos.
De Jong has also been linked with a move to the Premier League, but all signs indicate this could very well end up being a two-horse race between the two top sides in Spain. Which team will end up getting one of the brightest talents of the Eredivisie in recent years?
