AS Monaco have bolstered their defensive depth in a big way with less than two weeks left in the 2019-20 Summer transfer window.
Les Monegasques, who didn’t start the 2019-20 Ligue 1 season on a strong note while also struggling with relegation during most of last season, have added two interesting players to their squad. These are Guillermo Maripan, who comes from Spanish side Alaves, and Adrien Silva, who arrives from Leicester City in the Premier League.
Maripan should represent an interesting addition to bolster Monaco defensively. Even though he’s not the best out there with the ball on his feet, he’s fierce on the marking and can become a threat on aerial duels, an area where Monaco have struggled of late, on both ends of the pitch. He is also a full international with Chile and played for La Roja in the 2019 Copa America.
As for Adrien Silva, he was an undisputed star playing for Sporting Lisbon back in the Portuguese top-tier, but he hasn’t been able to translate that playing overseas. He was going to struggle for playing time at Leicester City this season, so hopefully the move to Monaco will help him revitalize his career.
Maripan joined the Ligue 1 giants for an undisclosed fee, while Adrien Silva arrives to France on a season-long loan deal. Both are expected to become regular starters on Leonardo Jardim’s side.
