London Premier League club West Ham United are set to conclude a loan deal for Inter Milan midfielder Joao Mario reports Sky Sports.

Hammers boss David Moyes is making no secret of his desire to strengthen his midfield but faced disappointment when the 25-year-old Portugal international expressed his unwillingness to move to a struggling Premier League club.

However, Mario as apparently had a change of heart, possibly with his coach Luciano Spalletti making it clear that the midfielder is not a major part of his plans. The signing of Rafinha, 24, from Barcelona underlines the bleakness of his future prospects at the San Siro.

Manchester United were believed to be interested in signing the Internazionale man but with Alexis Sanchez, 29, moving to Old Trafford, the desire for a deal has disappeared.

It’s understood the two clubs reached agreement on a loan deal for the remainder of this season, with the fee of £1m mentioned as well as West Ham paying his wages in their entirety.

If all works for player and club, there is an option for a £26m permanent move next summer. It’s a £10m loss for Inter having paid Sporting Lisbon £36m following his inclusion in the successful Portugal Euro 2016 campaign.
