Arsenal are set to battle Real Madrid over Brazilian starlet Alan this winter, according to the Daily Mirror.

The Palmeiras midfielder is starring for Brazil in the recent Under-17 World Cup which is currently taking place in India. Following a 2 – 1 win over Germany, they face England in Wednesday’s semi-final.

Capped sixteen times at youth level, Alan was a member of the Brazil side which won the South American Youth Championships and is aiming to become the first XI from the country to win the World Cup since 2003.

Spanish media claims that Real Madrid have already agreed a deal for the youngster have been rejected, described as “premature” by those close to both Palmeiras and the player’s agent.

Manchester United were the first club to show genuine interest in the midfielder earlier this year but it was Los Blancos who first acted on their interest in the player. It’s believed he has a $50m release clause in his Palmeiras contract but as of yet, Real Madrid are not believed to be in talks with the club.

Arsenal, however, are keen to sign the midfielder and hopeful that Arsène Wenger’s track record of blooding young players in the first team might weigh in their favour against Real Madrid’s reputation.

The lure of Real Madrid is strong though and the prospect of becoming another great in the famous white strip is a lure the youngster may find too hard to resist.
