One of the most interesting players in the Ligue 1 this season has been Maxwel Cornet, who has been tearing it up for Olympique Lyon during the current term.
The 21-year-old winger has managed to win a starting role with the team and has relegated Memphis Depay to a lesser role, so big clubs have already taken notice about him. In fact, L’Equipe has reported both Borussia Dortmund and Valencia are among clubs showing interest in the attacker.
Cornet did not start the season as a regular member of the starting XI, but has been playing consistently over the past few months. In fact, he played the full 90 minutes during Lyon’s 2-1 win over PSG. Both Dortmund and Valencia scouts watched the 21-year-old’s performance.
The Ivorian is regarded as a future star, and is considered to be one of the most exciting prospects in Europe. He has drawn comparisons to Ousmane Dembele, and like the French winger who now plays for Barca, he could have the chance to leave the Ligue 1 for greener pastures sooner than later.
Cornet has three goals and six assists so far this season, but it is not going to be easy to acquire him. Aside from the fact that Lyon are not willing to part ways with their future star, it also needs to be considered that Cornet still has another three-and-a-half-years left on his current contract.
