It is not a secret that Real Madrid did not start the season as well as they were hoping. After winning the UEFA Super Cup against Manchester United and the Spanish Super Cup against FC Barcelona, most experts believed Los Merengues would cruise their way across all competitions once again like they did last year.
However, things have not worked out like that. Following a sloppy start to the season, Zinedine Zidane’s men are already seven point behind Los Blaugranas in La Liga. This means the two-time reigning Champions League winners need to do something soon. And based on recent reports, they will try to get some help during the upcoming January transfer window.
It is believed that Real Madrid will try to sign as many world-class players as possible during January in order to boost the side. And while no one can doubt the strength of the team, there is no question they also need reinforcements in some areas.
For instance, Madrid need help upfront. The departure of Alvaro Morata and the injury sustained by Karim Benzema has left Madrid with Borja Mayoral as the team’s lone natural striker. Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale can fill that role, but both are better suited to play on wider roles.
The solutions? Real Madrid is keen land one of Paulo Dybala, Antoine Griezmann or Timo Werner during January, according to a report from The Daily Star.
Signing new players in January is not as easy as many people think, and the new players need to adjust to a whole new environment when moves are confirmed. But Real Madrid are not going to stand pat. And if the bad results continue, then it would not be a shocker to see them surprisingly active once the market opens up again next year.
