FC Barcelona remain interested in signing one of Philippe Coutinho and Ousmane Dembele. However, talks for both players have gotten quite complicated over the past few days and Los Blaugranas need to start looking at alternatives soon before the transfer window shuts in September 3rd, 2017.
The arrival of Coutinho in particular became increasingly difficult due to Liverpool’s stance. They are not willing to negotiate the departure of their playmaker. With that in mind, Ernesto Valverde is reportedly interested in Angel Di Maria as a potential option to strengthen the attack.
The idea has a lot of sense behind it. Di Maria already knows what it means to play in Liga thanks to his previous stint with Real Madrid, and he would be a perfect replacement for Neymar since he plays in the same position.
Furthermore, PSG need to start selling players to comply with the Financial Fair Play rules. They already let Blaise Matuidi sign with Juventus, and names such as Di Maria and Lucas Moura could depart in the coming days as well.
It is worth noting, however, that Di Maria is not the first option for Barcelona. Coutinho and Dembele are the primary targets, and the Argentinian is the fallback in case they can’t land any of the two. And the move could be close to completion, as Di Maria is 2/1 to sign with Los Blaugranas.
Di Maria is proven in La Liga and is considered one of the best wingers in the world. There is no question he would be a great signing for Barca.
