There are few areas where Liverpool need a drastic improvement looking towards the 2019-20 season.

The Reds already have a quality goalkeeper in Alisson, one of the best centre-backs in the world in Virgil van Dijk, a plethora of competent midfielder, and two deadly wingers in Sadio Mane and Mo Salah. However, Jurgen Klopp could use a reliable backup for Roberto Firmino or, at the very least, someone who could play all over the attacking third.

And that’s where they will put most of their focus ahead of the upcoming transfer window. According to a report from Sport Bild, Liverpool are keen to make a move for Leverkusen star Julian Brandt, to the point that they would be open to pay the entire release clause of the 22-year-old. At £21.5m, it would be quite a steal in today’s market.

That’s not all, though. The Anfield outfit have also made a move for Lille’s winger Nicolas Pepe and while he would be considerably more expensive than Brandt, he’s more than worth the transfer fee the Ligue 1 side is asking for. He’s been one of the key reasons why Lille will probably end up playing in the UEFA Champions League next season.

Pepe, 23, currently has 19 goals and 11 assists in 33 Ligue 1 appearances for Lille during the current season. Meanwhile, Brandt has contributed with four goals and 12 assists in 29 Bundesliga appearances for Leverkusen.
