Jose Mourinho won’t stand in the way of Anthony Martial if the France international wants to leave Old Trafford this summer.

The astonishing claim comes in the Sunday Times which reports that the Manchester United manager is fully aware of Martial’s agent trying to find a new club for his client.

The 22-year-old made no secret of his unhappiness earlier this season with Mourinho utilising his pace on the wing instead of his preferred central role. The paper claims that Martial is on a list of players compiled by Mourinho who can leave if they want.

This is in addition to those already identified by the Portuguese as no longer required.

It is an incredible fall from grace for the player who is, until Kylian Mbappe, 19, moves to Paris St-Germain from AS Monaco this summer, the most expensive teenage footballer in the world. His €50m deal came with a further €10m in bonus payments to the Monegasque.

Martial has a year remaining on his current deal with the club having the option to renew it for a further twelve months after that. It means this summer is the transfer window where United are likeliest to realise the best value for the Frenchman.

Mourinho is eyeing a number of young players around Europe, including Bordeaux winger Malcom, whom United were heavily linked with in the past.
