Arsenal’s quest for a new striker sees the focus on Lyon and in particular, French international, Alexandre Lacazette. The Ligue Un club recently announced the capture of the Chelsea striker, Bertrand Traore for £15m, fuelling hope that the Gunners might land one of the two strikers they were chasing this summer.
The north London club hoped to land Kylian Mbappe in what would be a record-breaking transfer but the Daily Mail reports, Arsenal believe he is heading to the Bernabeu this summer.
Much media coverage has focused on his trips to Madrid four years ago and the draw of playing for Zinedine Zidane, something Arsene Wenger cannot compete with despite being a highly-respected coach in France.
Arsenal were prepared to go to around £80m for the young striker but were quickly blown out of the water by Europe’s elite, who are ready to go beyond £100m to secure one of world football’s hottest talents.
However, Wenger and Arsenal CEO Ivan Gazidis, were photographed on the Cote D’Azur earlier this summer. It was widely interpreted as being solely in pursuit of Mbappe but it’s understood they were pursuing both strikers, having been encouraged by the hierarchy of both clubs.
With Alexis Sanchez seeming to agitate for a move away from the Emirates, landing either of the French internationals is likely to soften the blow for the long-suffering Arsenal supporters. http://gty.im/695742336
