Bosnian international striker Edin Dzeko was on the verge of leaving AS Roma during the January transfer window since he was heavily linked with a potential move to Chelsea, but the move could not be completed and the former Manchester City player remains with the club. At least for now.
Things could change in a hurry, and there is at least one team that has already expressed interest in the services of the towering striker. We are talking about AC Milan, as the Rossonero are absolutely delighted with the Bosnian and would be keen to make a move for him next summer.
Milan strengthen their squad this past summer and added several attacking-minded players such as Hakan Calhanoglu, Nikola Kalinic and Andre Silva, but neither has managed to gravitate. In fact, Kalinic and Silva have struggled to the point that Milan are already testing the market for a new, proven striker.
Andrea Belotti had already emerged as an alternative, but there is no question Dzeko would fit the bill as well. He has experience playing at the highest level in at least three countries (Germany, Italy and England) and he has been productive everywhere he has been.
His best moments have come with Roma, though, club where he signed with in the 2014-15 season after playing for Manchester City. Dzeko scored 29 Serie A goals in 37 league appearances last season, and this year he already features 11 goals in 25 matches.
The experienced 31-year-old forward could be available for €25 million, whereas AC Milan would have no problems matching his €4.5 million salary.
