Ernesto Valverde wants to do everything he can to improve Barcelona‘s depth in midfield. He already secured the services of Paulinho, but he is not done yet. And now Los Blaugranas are on the verge of signing one of the best playmakers in France’s Ligue 1.
Both Diario Sport and Mundo Deportivo reported that Barca expect to finalise a deal for Jean-Michaël Seri, a talented central midfielder from Nice and the Ivory Coast national team, for a reported €40 million transfer fee. Those reports indicated that the deal would be announced in the coming days.
For what is worth, the midfielder only said he wants “to see what happens” with his future. But all signs indicate he is set to move to the Camp Nou outfit.
Seri would be Barcelona’s fifth signing of the transfer window, although they are yet to replace Neymar who left the club to join PSG a few weeks ago. Barca have already signed Marlon Santos, Gerard Deulofeu, Nelson Semedo and Paulinho this summer, and remain hopeful of doing deals for Philippe Coutinho and Ousmane Dembele.
The move makes sense since Seri is a talented playmaker who could become Andres Iniesta’s replacement down the road. But will he make an immediate impact on the squad? That remains to be seen, especially considering he will have to fight with Ivan Rakitic, Andre Gomes, Paulinho and Sergi Roberto for playing time.
