Newly-appointed Napoli manager Carlo Ancelotti has the goal to surpass Juventus in the Serie A title race and while that might seem impossible due to Cristiano Ronaldo’s arrival to The Old Lady, the veteran tactician will do whatever it takes to improve the team. And one area he wants to strengthen is the attacking end.
The lack of a “true” striker is something that Napoli are keen to solve as soon as possible, and they have been linked with several names. The latest player to get involved with a potential Napoli switch is none other than Michy Batshuayi, who played for Borussia Dortmund last season but currently belongs to Chelsea.
The Belgium international does not figure to have a big role within the team next season, especially considering both Alvaro Morata and Olivier Giroud remain with the team. As such, a season-long loan seems to be the best alternative for the former Marseille star. And Napoli are at the top of the list when it comes to teams interested in the 24-year-old.
It wouldn’t be the first time Batshuayi goes out on loan since joining Chelsea. He already left the side in the second part of last season when he joined Dortmund, and enjoyed a stellar stint with the Bundesliga giants. He scored nine goals in 14 matches for Dortmund before an injury cut his season short. He also played for Belgium in the 2018 World Cup and scored a goal against Tunisia.
It is still unclear whether the Blues new boss Maurizio Sarri is planning to utilize him next season. But if he doesn’t, then his potential move to Napoli could become a reality sooner than later.
Everton are also said to be interested in signing Batshuayi. However, Napoli have the edge when it comes to adding the Belgian due to the fact that they will participate in the UEFA Champions League next season.
