Liverpool are ready to rival AC Milan for Ajax winger Anwar El Ghazi, 21.
The winger has netted 20 goals in his 58 Eredivisie appearances since making his full Ajax debut in the 2014 Johan Cruijff Schaal against PEC Zwolle.
El Ghazi shot to prominence when he scored for the Amsterdam giants in their 1 – 3 defeat to Barcelona in October 2014. It was the first goal the Catalans had conceded at home that season and drew praise for the youngster in the Spanish and Dutch media.
His performances over the past two seasons have drawn the attention of Serie A clubs with Lazio the first to express an interest. They have been joined by Milan and now Liverpool in the race to sign the winger who has won two caps for the Netherlands.
Despite the opening day 4 – 3 win over Arsenal at the Emirates, Jurgen Klopp is keen to bolster his attack with pace a key criteria. With a surfeit of central strikers despite shifting Christian Benteke, 25, onto Crystal Palace, the German manager is keen to added width to his forward line.
Ajax are reported to be seeking a fee of £15m for El Ghazi, whom Klopp believes at 6’ 2 has the physical presence to withstand the rigours of the Premier League.
