After last weekend’s capitulation against Huddersfield Town, Frank de Boer’s reign at Crystal Palace made a troubled start. The Dutchman’s week got worse with the news that the punishment Wilfried Zaha will miss the next month through injury.
Andros Townsend is a natural replacement for the former Manchester United player but it leaves Palace’s options thin on the ground, particularly as de Boer is in no rush to bring Zaha back into first team action. “We don’t want to force him”, the Dutchman declared. “We need him all year.”
It’s left the new Palace boss looking to strengthen his squad and the name of Scottish international Oliver Burke, 20, surfaced as one of the Eagles targets this summer, according to the Daily Mail. The south London club are evens to complete the deal.
His sale by Nottingham Forest caused outrage among supporters but the £13m move led to an impressive debut season in the Bundesliga. He grabbed his first goal in German football in his second appearance against 1FC Koln.
While the majority of his Leipzig performances came from the bench – 20 of his 25 were as substitute – the Red Bull owned side finished runners-up and will feature in this season’s Champions League.
Burke however, is reportedly open to a move to the Premier League and Palace’s situation lends itself to a starring return to English football.
