Joe Hart could be set for a sensational move to AC Milan, according to a Sunday Mirror report. The England goalkeeper had a mixed spell with Torino last season but knows he has no future at Manchester City.
Pep Guardiola, dogged by goalkeeping issues with Willy Caballero and Raul Bravo failing to live up to expectations. It led to the Catalan to Benfica, where he signed uncapped Brazilian, Ederson, for £34m.
Hart knows he must find a new club this summer but as with last year, his wages are a problem for most. AC Milan are well-funded with their new Chinese owners determined to take the former European and world champions back to the top of Serie A.
With Jack Butland back to full fitness and Everton’s new £30m signing Jordan Pickford, pushing for a spot in the England starting line-up, Hart knows he is fighting for his international career.
Having been unassailable previously, Pep Guardiola’s arrival at Manchester City caused Hart’s career to hit choppy water. Moving to a high-profile club such as Milan – and more importantly, performing well there – will strenghten his position in Gareth Southgate’s mind.
Despite the Torino president claiming they didn’t expect so many mistakes from England’s goalkeeper, he was popular with supporters. Milan obviously aren’t put off by his form and it maybe that Hart can be the rarest of English footballers: a success abroad.
