As the transfer window heads toward its denouement, Tottenham are snapping out of their lethargy with the signing of Barcelona midfielder Denis Suarez. The 23-year-old is wanted by Napoli with the Italian club’s interest sparking Spurs into action.
Metro reports claim the north London side are readying a £27m bid in an attempt to beat their Serie A rivals to the punch. Mauricio Pochettino has yet to see his squad strengthened this summer. Plenty of players have been linked with a move to White Hart Lane but none has arrived.
Chairman Daniel Levy is focussed on renewing deals as well as satisfying his manager’s demands for new blood. Pochettino is concerned that while Tottenham’s title rivals are acting decisively to improve themselves, Spurs have fallen into the trap of believing the only bargains of the summer come as the window closes.
With a new stadium to fund, Levy is conscious that the books must be balanced each year. The £51m sale of Kyle Walker to Manchester City provided the club with much needed funds but this weekend’s match against defending champions Chelsea will tell them how much they need to spend to close the gap to the top of the table.
Spurs are currently looking at Ajax’s 21-year-old centre back Davinson Sanchez as a replacement for West Bromwich Albion-bound Kevin Wimmer. The Austrian international is set to complete a £15m switch to the Hawthorns early next week, according to the Daily Telegraph.
