The Valencia defender is seen as the ideal replacement for full-back Matteo Darmian who is heading for the Old Trafford exit having fallen from favour with United boss Jose Mourinho.
Gaya, 22, is being watched by a number of Europe’s elite clubs after a string of impressive performances helped lift Valencia into the Champions League places in La Liga.
Born in the Valencian Community, Gaya signed for Los Che twelve years ago and progressed through the junior ranks to the first team, making his debut in the Copa del Rey against UE Llagostera in 2012.
He had to wait two more seasons before making his La Liga bow in the 2014 1 – 0 home defeat to Atletico Madrid. It was under Nuno Espirito Santo’s reign at the Mestalla that he became a regular first-team choice.
Since then, he has made over 100 first-team appearances as well as earning international call-ups at all junior levels for Spain, as well as being called into the senior squad twice, albeit without winning his first cap.
Gaya is tied to Valencia until 2020 and his contract reportedly includes a €50m release clause.
