The rumour was already out there since a few days: Manchester United might decide to sell Romelu Lukaku this upcoming summer and if that happens, United would still have quality attacking options such as Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford and Alexis Sanchez.
However, The Red Devils would still try to add at least one more piece to strengthen the attacking line during the upcoming transfer market. And according to a report from The Mirror, the Premier League giants are keen to complete moves for two of the best strikers in the Serie A: Paulo Dybala and Mauro Icardi.
In fact, the report has indicated that talks have taken place with Juventus and Inter Milan over the potential signings of both players. Both appear to be out of favour and unhappy at their current clubs: while Dybala is not happy with his lack of first-team minutes at Juventus, Icardi has been “erased” from the squad by manager Luciano Spalletti, who stripped him out of the club’s captaincy.
It is believed Lukaku would be offered as part of any deal United can negotiate after falling down the pecking order under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. And it is clear that both Serie A giants would be willing to sign a player of Lukaku’s caliber if that means to offload their unhappy stars.
Undoubtedly, this is one rumour that needs to be watched closely in the coming months.
